This extraordinary embroidered banner was made for Holy Angels, Hoar Cross, to a design by G. F. Bodley, and made by Watts at around the turn of the 20th century.
It is mounted on an early incarnation of Watts Gothic silk and worked in Japanese Gold thread, a technique that Watts & Co pioneered in the 19th century.
The red side represents the face of the banner and the yellow is its reverse.
